At Adult Guardianship Services (AGS), we understand the significance of establishing competency and ensuring the well-being of vulnerable individuals. Guardianship is a crucial legal process that safeguards the personal and medical interests of those unable to manage their own affairs.

Summit County Probate Court acts as the "Superior Guardian," overseeing the appointment of legal guardians and monitoring all guardianships to ensure the utmost protection for the wards.

Establishing Competency:
Before a guardian can be appointed, the determination of competency or lack thereof is essential. Competency assessments are conducted to assess an individual's ability to make decisions and manage their own affairs. Once established that an individual lacks competency, the Summit County Probate Court takes the necessary steps to protect their interests through the appointment of a legal guardian.

Training and Appointment Process:
At AGS, we provide comprehensive training to individuals interested in becoming guardians. We value your time and convenience, offering training sessions tailored to your schedule. Upon submitting a completed application, we will schedule an interview and training session for you. Additionally, a background check will be conducted to ensure the safety and well-being of the wards. Once approved, you will be assigned a guardianship case.

Ongoing Support and Training:
At every step of the journey, AGS is dedicated to supporting our volunteers. Our entire staff is committed to providing ongoing training and assistance to ensure that you feel confident and prepared as you serve as a guardian. We understand the importance of continuous growth and learning in this role, and our team is here to provide the necessary resources, guidance, and support throughout each year of your guardianship.

As an AGS volunteer, you will be part of a compassionate community committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those in need. Together, we can protect the personal and medical interests of our wards and provide them with the care, advocacy, and support they deserve.

Join us on this meaningful journey as we work together to ensure the well-being and protection of individuals who rely on our dedication and compassion.
